Considered by many to be one of the nation’s most effective youth communicators, Steve Fitzhugh brings unparalleled passion to the critical issues of today.

A former professional football player with the NFL’s Denver Broncos, Steve’s articulate, relevant message of motivation and success engages the most difficult to reach students with life-changing insight. Steve’s use of “old fashioned” antidotes in modernday language challenges and leaves youth excited about their lives and their future.

Much of Steve’s fire is fueled by personal tragedy. Throughout his family, nicotine and
other substance use and addiction has displayed its fatal hold. In 1995, Steve witnessed
the slow, agonizing death of his mother only sixty years young. A smoker of 40 years,
she suffered from several inoperable, cancerous brain tumors. In February 1997, Steve
also endured the loss of his oldest brother, who fell victim to alcoholism and cocaine
abuse, at the age of 41. In tribute to these loved ones, Steve travels the country as the
national One Way to Play Drug Free! spokesman for the Fellowship of Christian Athletes
and communicates with relentless fervor to end drug use and abuse.

His articulate blend of information, humor, role-play and contemporary language leaves students gripped by his message and destined for change. High school principals, teachers and counselors have responded tremendously to his presentations, which confront current issues from peer pressure to positive values, from alcohol abuse to freedom from the
chemical culture, from dropping out to academic leadership, and encouraging students who have made positive choices.

As an accomplished motivational speaker, poet and rap artist, he has conducted workshops, assemblies and seminars, and performed concerts in high schools, colleges, juvenile detention centers, national conventions and correctional facilities as well. He often has been referred to as “The Chaplain to the Pros” because of his motivational and inspirational talks to the Denver Broncos, Washington Redskins, New York Giants, Detroit Lions and various other professional and collegiate athletic teams.

A scholarship athlete and graduate of Miami University in Ohio, Steve has been living and
working in Washington, D.C., for more than 15 years. Additionally, he is the Founder
and Executive Director of PowerMoves, a national youth organization that uses the power
of athletics, academics and the arts to help youth move into success and significance.

Steve is married to Dr. Karen Broussard-Fitzhugh. They are the proud parents of two
children, Nicole Camille and Siona Marie.
